ST, STS: Stitch, stitches
Rep: Repeat
K: Knit
P: Purl
Yo: Yarn over
P2tog: Purl 2 stitches together
SL: Slip stitch with yarn in back
PSSO: Pass slipped stitch over

Herringbone stitch makes a very attractive fabric. It does tend to pull together, so be sure to go up a needle size or two.  
Looks good made with this robust chunky and self-striping yarn.
Pattern
Cast on an even number of sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, *SL1, K1, YO, PSSO; rep from * to last st, K1.
Row 2 (WS): *P2tog, do not slip sts off needle, purl first st again, then slip both sts off needle; rep from * to end.
Rep Rows 1 - 2.
